Suitability

The BSB50720 Diploma of Paralegal Services could be a good fit for you if you have more than two years of experience in the legal field and want to deepen your legal knowledge and expertise.

For those with less than two years of experience, we typically suggest starting with the BSB30320 Certificate III in Legal Services or BSB40620 Certificate IV in Legal Services. You can enrol in the BSB50720 Diploma of Paralegal Services without having two years of legal industry experience; however, you'll need to meet specific eligibility criteria, which typically requires completing three prerequisite subjects (see "Entry requirements" in the next column for further information). Outcomes

This course covers the skills and knowledge needed to perform a range of secretarial, administrative and paralegal tasks commonly found in law firms or similar environments.

Upon completing this qualification, you'll be equipped with the skills and experience required for an entry-level position within a law firm or a similar legal setting. The expertise gained from this course will also enhance your current role if you're already working in the legal field.

How it works

The BSB50720 Diploma of Paralegal Studies involves completing 12 Units of Competency in an online virtual law firm environment. You’ll act as a “pretend” Legal Assistant, performing tasks and handling scenarios that reflect real-world law firm activities. Through the Student Portal, you'll engage with interactive eLearning materials and readings. After each Unit, complete and submit your written and practical assessments via the Portal. We’ll review your submissions, and if deemed "competent," you can move on to the next Unit. If not, we’ll provide guidance on achieving a "competent" outcome.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for the BSB50720 Diploma of Paralegal Services, you must either have two years of full-time, relevant legal industry experience or have successfully completed the following three units of study:

• BSBLEG314 Protect information in a legal services environment

• BSBLEG423 Conduct simple legal research

• BSBLEG424 Support the drafting of complex legal documents.
